The Youth Pledge, sworn on October 28, 1928, is not just a historical text that is easily forgotten. The Youth Pledge was an important milestone in the founding of the republic. In the separation created by the colonial government, it manifested as a call for unity that overshadowed differences. At that time the youth made a conscious intellectual effort to formulate a national identity that functioned like nutritious food for the embryonic republic. The youth were representatives of the people who decided to bind themselves in one national identity based on the recognition of a common nation, homeland, and language.
As Christian youth, let us always live the spirit of the Youth Pledge, growing to be 100% Christian, 100% Indonesian. Proud of the homeland, proud to be part of ethnic and cultural diversity, and proud to speak Indonesian as the language of unity.
Today we are reminded of our commitment to respect each other and work together for the common good. As Christian youth who love the nation, we are required to integrate the values of the Christian faith in our daily lives. Love of country is not only expressed in words, but also in concrete actions that reflect love and justice. By upholding the principles of love, we can create an inclusive space for dialogue, where every voice, especially from marginalized groups, is heard and valued.
Furthermore, Christian youth who are sensitive and concerned about the nation's struggles are key in facing the challenges at hand. This awareness encourages us to get involved in social, economic, and political issues that affect society. We must become agents of change who not only speak out for justice, but also provide solutions to the problems facing the nation. By doing so, we contribute to realizing the ideals of independence that have not yet been fully achieved.
Having a sense of belonging as a form of pride and gratitude for our country is crucial. This awareness not only fosters love for the nation, but also strengthens our commitment to building a better Indonesia. A sense of pride in Indonesia's cultural heritage, diversity, and natural beauty should motivate us to contribute to every aspect of our nation's life.
