ROOTED IN THE WORD, READY TO FACE THE FUTURE

Hello! Bible Week, organised by the Indonesian Bible Society in collaboration with STT GKST Tentena, began with a seminar for young people. The seminar took place on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, at 11.00 WIB, in the hall of STT GKST Tentena. Led by the experienced moderator, Ferin Pratiwi Ndabuke, and the trusted speaker, Mr Ulbrits Siahaan.

Young people (the Millennial, Generation Z and Generation Alpha generations) are now a community that is highly adept at navigating the digital world; it does not take them long to learn, use and harness the digital world, such as social media. However, various challenges also arise alongside the truly rapid development of the digital world every day.

A seminar entitled “Rooted in the Word, Ready to Face the Future” invited and encouraged every young person to recognise the realities of the digital world, academic development, and careers or employment. The young people in attendance, ranging from those in primary education to university students, realised that the digital world plays a significant role in achieving their aspirations and shaping their academic and career paths. A good education, evidenced by academic grades on a certificate, is not enough to guarantee that a young person will become a person of value. In today’s world, every young person needs to have a clear concept of IKIGAI (mission, work, profession and passion) to determine the direction of their studies and career, as well as strong competencies (knowledge, skills and behaviour) to establish their own value.

Following the presentation by Mr Ulbrits Siahaan, a variety of questions were raised by the young people out of curiosity, such as “as a young person, how can one overcome feelings of ‘insecurity’ within oneself?” In addition, some also asked, “How can we tackle the tendency towards suicidal thoughts experienced by young people today?”

Mr Ulbrits Siahaan responded to both questions with great joy and enthusiasm, saying, “To overcome feelings of ‘insecurity’’ and suicidal tendencies, every young person needs to fill their ‘cup’ with good and righteous things, such as reading God’s Word every day and then, with full faith, entrusting all their worries in life to the sovereignty of God’s hands”

Following the presentation and the question-and-answer session at the seminar, the audience enthusiastically took part in the Q&A session to win door prizes, before posing for a group photograph (jwn)
