Pride that Leads to Fall

Haman, a man thirsting for honor, entered the palace grounds with evil intentions. He came to ask permission to hang Mordecai, the enemy who had been bothering his ego. However, above human plans, there is another scenario being arranged by God's hand. The king asked Haman's opinion about what should be done for someone he wanted to honor. Haman immediately thought that he would receive the honor. With full confidence and self-confidence, he imagined himself as the recipient of the honor. He also proposed a series of luxuries, including wearing a king's robe, riding a horse usually ridden by a king, wearing a royal crown, and being paraded through the city square. However, Haman was surprised to find out that all the honor was not for him, but for Mordecai, the man he wanted to eliminate. Now, he is not the recipient of honors, but the servant who must organize and carry out the procession. It was his own hands that had to pin the royal robe on Mordecai, and his own lips that had to sing praises for the person he had always hated.

With a broken heart and shattered honor, Haman returned to his home. Faced with the harsh reality, he told everything to his wife and advisors. However, instead of consolation, he heard a prophecy of his own fall: "If Mordecai were of Jewish descent, before whom you have begun to fall, then you would not be able to resist him, in fact you would truly fall before him." (verse 13).

Friends of the Bible, true honor does not come from human efforts to exalt themselves, but from the sovereign hand of God. Indeed, life is full of uncertainty and injustice, but we can trust that in the end, God's scenario will come true. Everything happens according to His time and plan, and in the end, God Himself will put everyone in their proper place.
