In this fast-paced information age, many aspects of human life have changed. One of them is how we judge the truth. Due to the rapid flow of information, truth is now often determined by how often it is voiced. We live in an era where loud voices go viral faster than the right ones. Many people are good at arguing, but not many truly speak from a heart filled with wisdom and discernment. This reveals a character through speech that is easily caught up in polemics, tends to be reactive, whether out of anger, fear, or to show off superiority. In such a world, the psalmist's call is a compelling invitation to reflect. When we speak out and express our opinions, what is the real source of those words?
Certainly the psalmist is not blind to the fact that the wicked often lurk and find fault with the righteous (verse 32). But there is one reassuring certainty: God will not let the righteous fall into their hands (verse 33). The life of the righteous may not be viral, it may not be glamorous, it may even seem ‘ordinary.’ But it is the Lord who holds and confirms his steps.
Friends of the Bible, the psalmist's message is especially relevant for those of us who often feel like a minority in a culture that values image over truth. We are called to be people who dare to speak wisdom and justice, not because we want to be recognized, but because we have the word of God in our hearts. We need not worry if our voices are less loud than those who “blossom like the cedars of Lebanon ”, for they will eventually fade away, but peace will be the inheritance of the righteous.
