Human beings are rational creatures; as such, they possess the capacity for reflection, enabling them to absorb the experiences around them and discern the message from God that may lie beneath them. What does God want me to do amidst the turbulence of life’s current dynamics? That is the living experience of faith, which is always intertwined with the lives we lead. 

The people of Judah were challenged to question their way of life following a severe drought that had struck their region. The drought was so severe that Jeremiah described its impact as reaching cosmic proportions. All of creation suffered and was affected by it. In the midst of this harrowing disaster, the prophet seemed to act as the spokesperson for the people of Judah. He pointed out that this nation had offered sacrifices, fasted, and constantly invoked the name of the Lord.  

Not only that, but this nation had also strayed into the false comfort offered by false prophets. They sought a way out not from God, the Creator of the universe, but from mere rumours. The Prophet then reminded the people once more of what is most essential: living in God’s favour and remaining faithful to His covenant. 

Dear Friends of the Bible, let us train our sensitivity to respond to the various events that occur in our lives in the light of God’s wisdom. It may well be that God is waiting for us to return into His embrace and inviting us to profess our repentance before Him. Let us live guided solely by His wisdom, for it is from there that God’s presence and protection come.
