A lyrical verse says, "...for love is strong as death, ardent passion as the world of the dead, its flame is a flame of fire, like the flame of the LORD!" (Kid. 8:6)
For Jacob, his time, energy, youth, and perhaps even his pride, were never more precious than Rachel. His love and desire for Rachel was so strong that he ignored it all. And for fourteen years, despite having Leah as his wife, not even for a moment did his heart shift from Rachel. "...he loved Rachel more than Leah."
Bible friends, love is strong like death. Its power can move anyone who has it to do or sacrifice anything to prove his love or to get what he loves. The story of Jacob's love for Rachel has set an example for us on how to remain steadfast and focused on our goals despite the challenges we face. Whatever we do if it is based on love and care, done with sincerity and determination, enthusiasm and focus, and in hope and trust in God as the goal, God will surely make it successful.
As we conclude our series of reflections throughout this month of January, we know that even though our lives are characterized by various uncertain challenges, our hope in God must remain strong, because He, the Lord, provides certainty for us, namely for those of us who remain faithful to follow Him and love Him.
