In recent months, Indonesians have been presented with news that shocks social justice: unilateral layoffs without humane solutions, criminalization of those who defend the rights of the common people, and corruption scandals that undermine the sense of justice. This situation raises questions and cynical responses among the public, why do the bad guys seem to continue to triumph, while those who are sincere and righteous are weakened by the system?"
These questions and concerns are not new. The psalmist had experienced them too. In Psalm 10, he describes how the wicked oppress the weak and act as if God will not act. They rely on power and cunning, even boasting as if God does not see. Yet amidst the pain and cries of injustice, the psalmist did not give up. He closes his cry in faith, "You strengthen their hearts, you direct with your ear" (10:17).
Then in Psalm 11, comes the bold voice of faith, "In the LORD I take refuge; how dare you say to me, "Fly to the mountain like a bird!" (11:1). This expression confirms that the Psalmist refused to give in to fear. He knew that God was still sitting on His throne. He is not silent. He sees. He cares. He is just.
Bible friends, when justice seems far away and fear looms, we are faced with a choice, run or stand in faith. The world may crumble, social foundations may falter, but God never leaves His throne. Like David, let us reject fear-driven counsel. Instead, we choose to trust that God sees His people and will reveal His justice in due time.
