Amidst the various offers of life's values, believers must be able to determine their attitude. Not all of these values will lead us to His will. In fact, it is often the opposite. Therefore, believers need to humble themselves and listen to His counsel as guidance in life. This is the psalmist's invitation in chapter 49. At the opening of his verse, the psalmist invites all people regardless of status to be still and listen to the counsels that will be given. This confirms the psalmist's faithful understanding that God makes no distinction between those who are rich or poor; in position or not. His perspective is often contrary to the values of the world.
The psalmist expresses his confidence that God alone is reliable in all things. Even in the midst of obstacles and strong opponents. These people rely only on themselves and the wealth that they see as their strength. They feel powerful even though destruction awaits them. They do not know the wisdom of life based on His will. In the end, after death, not everything will be left behind in the world. Therefore, every believer is invited to put salvation not in the amount of wealth or high and low positions, but by relying on God alone.
Those who trust in God will find freedom in their lives. The joy of his heart does not depend on anything, but only on the intimacy of his relationship with God. That relationship with God is the only thing that is eternal in this life.
Today we see how God wants to change the perspective of His people so that they are not influenced by the often misleading values of the world. Do not hesitate to follow God and obey His will, for God is the only thing that lasts in this world. If the world's values offer stability only in material things, then the true happiness of God's children lies in an eternal relationship with Him.
