Amidst all the busyness and dreams and ambitions we pursue, it's easy for modern humans to lose the meaning and importance of His life. We forget that we are God's creation created to serve Him alone. All our work, words, and deeds should be a manifestation of our devotion to God.

This is the spirit that the psalmist wants to bring through the memory of David's actions and desires. In chapter 132, the psalmist invites us to see David as a model of faith. He is positioned as someone who upholds the covenant with God. God will forever be the Lord of David and all the people of Israel. This is where we are shown David building loyalty to God through his vow to build God's dwelling place or His temple that is strong and everlasting. The reference to this event is the situation of Israel during David's time, which did not have a permanent temple. For David, this brought about his own anxiety, how could the Royal palace be so magnificent, while the dwelling place of God was still not firmly established.

David's anxiety and vow were described in extremes: no sleep, no rest, and no comfort. His heart was set on the Lord and revered the covenant with Him. Although in the end we know that the Lord Himself decreed that His house would not be built by David but by his descendants, David's expression of restlessness still shows a focus on the Lord alone.

Let us also learn from David who directed his entire being to God. It is only in God that we find peace and the fulfillment of His will brings everlasting joy. Do not be dazzled by the temptations of the world that only lead us to futility and a sense of never being enough. Build a longing for His presence and we will see a life that is so meaningful because it is always directed towards eternity.
