When life is weighed down by various challenges and struggles, we know that only God can bring about deliverance and restoration. One thing we must realise is that the way God weaves His help and deliverance truly lies beyond the limitations of our human minds. It is truly unexpected, yet woven so beautifully and at just the right time.
Who would have thought that the path to deliverance for the people of Judah, enabling them to return from exile, would come from such an unexpected figure? A foreign king, Cyrus, was chosen by God as the instrument to free His people from the land of exile. Historically, Cyrus did indeed lead Persia to conquer the Kingdom of Babylon in 539 BC (Before Christ). However, it appears that this was not merely a historical coincidence, but part of God’s plan for His people. God demonstrated His sovereignty to the entire universe. He did this so that the whole world might know that He is the one and only true God. Cyrus was an instrument in this divine plan to proclaim a cosmic testimony to His power.
The Lord wishes to tell Judah that even behind the shadows of the darkest events, God’s hand is at work bringing about good. May our steps, too, be steadied once more. Perhaps we find ourselves in a very difficult situation that seems hopeless. Yet let us not lose hope, for God is not idle. He is weaving works of goodness to bring about our liberation and well-being. See how He comes to our aid, even in the most unexpected ways. Do not limit His work to our own limited perceptions and expectations.
