One thing we understand from His Word in the Bible is God’s sovereignty over the entire universe. The entire universe is subject to Him who reigns in majesty. This contrasts with the understanding of the ancient nations surrounding Israel, who regarded their gods as exclusively their own, with no connection to other nations. It is therefore understandable that they thought they did not need to be accountable to the God of Israel. Apparently, that was the mistake of those nations. 

Jeremiah 25 marks a crucial point in revealing God’s purpose for Judah. Having previously declared that Judah would endure 70 years of punishment in the land of Babylon, it is now God’s turn to reveal His plan to the other nations. He did not allow Babylon to become the centre of history, for Babylon was merely His instrument. Now He also intends to bring His justice to bear upon the other nations. Why is this? It seems that, just like Judah, these nations believed they were free to do as they pleased without having to answer to God. 

The Lord desires that all nations submit to Him. Rebellion against Him brings consequences that are not easy to face. Therefore, the choice is to place our entire lives and trust in God. The path of life walked with God brings a peace that surpasses all understanding.
