Human Sacrifice in the Bible?
Friends of the Bible, perhaps the term ‘sacrifice’ or ‘victim’ is no longer something foreign to us. Moreover, we have just experienced the excitement of Eid al-Adha. But did we know that in ancient times, the understanding of sacrifice was different from what we understand today?"
Last Saturday, 15 June 2024, the Youtube channel of the Indonesian Bible Institute broadcast live the weekly Bible Seminar that airs every Saturday. On this occasion, Mr Paskalis as the speaker gave us an understanding of the ritual of "Sacrifice".
Today, sacrifice is considered something of value to be given to another person or party for the sake of "something else". This other thing is of a greater nature or value than what was previously owned. Of course, this is very different from what was understood in the tradition of life thousands of years ago. At that time, humans offered sacrifices as a concrete act of religious ritual performed to certain gods, deities, or magical forces that they perceived and worshipped at that time.
In these ritual activities, the sacrifices offered can be food, valuables, or our most valuable possessions such as livestock, the best crops, and so on. In essence, what is required to be offered is something that is very mature, valuable and very precious. The indication is that everything that makes us try very hard to get it, that is what must be offered. In the Bible, one story related to this is recorded in the book of 2 Samuel 24:24.
So, if the understanding is like this? Is it possible that one of the sacrificial offerings is a human being? Is this what happened to Abraham? To understand more, let's explore in the Bible Seminar show available on the Youtube channel of the Indonesian Bible Institute. Bible Seminar Practice Human Sacrifice in the Bible.
Bible Greetings To All.
