TB Bible Seminar 2, Pangkalpinang Bible Week 2025.
After the opening service of Bible Week, the next event was the TB Bible Seminar 2. This seminar was led by a moderator from a local church, with the main speaker Bp. Hortensius Mandaru, SSL (familiarly called Pak Tensi). Like the previous seminar, LAI through Mr. Tensi again explained important points regarding word changes in the 2nd edition of the New Translation of the Bible (TB 2).
"The point is on the revision of the Indonesian language, which must refer to the Ejaan Yang Disempurn (EYD)!", he explained when responding to one of the participants' questions. He also emphasized that translation revisions are carried out due to various factors, such as the development of linguistics, the development of cultural science, the acceptability of the text, and so on. All of these things become a strong basis for revising translations that take more than 20 years.
In the question and answer session, Mr. Tensi also patiently and wisely listened to the aspirations, and explained well all the things that were asked.
“ So, this LAI translates directly from the original language. The translated texts in "other languages are only used for comparison," he replied to one participant who asked whether LAI translates from the original language or English.
Some participants also expressed their concern regarding the difference in nuance between the Indonesian and English translations, which, according to them, are more soulful. In response, Pak Tensi emphasized, "Sometimes things like that have entered the realm of interpretation. We are only faithful to the original text, according to what is written.
At 6:00 pm, the seminar was closed with the distribution of door prizes, closing prayers, and a group photo session. After that, all participants enjoyed dinner together. The evening ended with a friendly and happy discussion.
The Pangkalpinang Bible Week will continue until September 11, 2025 at GBI Pulau Bangka, with a series of competitions, exhibitions of LAI publications, and Bible Museum collections.
