Friends of the Bible, Kalumpang is a sub-district in Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi. Kalumpang stretches from the lowlands (130 above sea level) to the mountains (1900 above sea level). The villages are separated by hills or mountains and large rivers. Road access to this region is difficult and inadequate and prone to landslides during the rainy season.
When the weather is clear, Kalumpang, which is 121 kilometres from the capital of Mamuju Regency, can be reached in 4-5 hours by car. The main livelihood of the people of Kalumpang is farming and raising livestock. The population of Kalumpang based on 2020 data is 12,175 people, with a percentage of Christians of 97.78%. Although the majority of Kalumpang people are Christians, many of them do not have a Bible.
Economic conditions and difficult access to Kalumpang are major factors in the lack of Bibles for many Christians. In 2024, Kalumpang will be one of the priority areas for LAI's One in Love (SDK) Programme. For the Kalumpang and surrounding areas LAI will distribute 13,380 copies of the Bible and its parts and 7,000 copies of the New Testament (NT) in the Kalumpang language.
