Repent!

Recently, more and more people are feeling anxious due to the world situation that is rumored endlessly in the swift flow of information through various media. Endless wars, unstable economic conditions, and crimes that spread in various forms. As believers, this tense reality should invite real repentance in our lives. At the same time, it should also invite determination to resist temptation and not participate in the evil that is rampant in the world.

The call to repentance appears through our passage this time. It is emphatically stated in verse 13, "If anyone does not repent, He sharpens His sword, bends His bow and takes aim." God is portrayed as a warrior who is ready with his sword and bow. Even whenever the need arises, deadly weapons and flaming arrows are ready to be unleashed. Those who persist in ungodliness and do not repent will receive the Knight's stern action. That is the duty of the knight with full determination to eradicate evil.

Why should repentance be sought in everyone's life? Those who remain in ungodliness and are subject only to their own lusts are the beginning of all possible evil in the world. This condition is expressed very dramatically by the psalmist as "the conception of iniquity", the wicked who refuses to repent is pregnant with iniquity and lies. In all this wickedness he will eventually perish. The injustice will return to him and his life is afflicted with violence. God is the Just One who will ensure that all order is well in the world inhabited by humans.

Friends of the Bible, be thankful if God is pleased to remind us of the constant repentance that is part of our life of faith as believers. So let's not harden ourselves by defending or even justifying our sinful deeds. Come to Him with all our regrets. God is a God of love but also justice. Repent and ask God for forgiveness.
