The problems and struggles that arise in our lives often divert our attention from the aspects of life that ought to be given careful consideration. As a result, our hearts and minds become clouded by worries that need not be there. It is in the midst of such situations that we should refocus on what matters most: God and all His decrees. Focusing on the Lord recalibrates all our directions, visions and goals in this life. Judah had long since lost that focus. They were destroyed by Babylon and exiled there. Thousands had lost hope; would we ever return to the land of our forefathers? 

It seems that God answered that longing and brought them back to the land of Israel. Nevertheless, the journey to rebuild the land God had appointed for them was not an easy one. Filled with twists and turns and unexpected challenges, it became a breeding ground for pessimism amongst the people of Israel. It was amidst all that pessimism that God worked and brought about the restoration of Israel. This restoration and salvation took place so that God’s people might bear witness to all His goodness. It is He Himself who will send His people to proclaim His glory to distant nations. 

Ultimately, we are invited to choose: whether to join the procession of those saved by God by living a life centred on Him, or to continue living a self-centred life as though God did not exist in this world. God is pleased with everyone who surrenders their life in humility, embracing the work of salvation that God has brought about for the whole universe. 

Dear Friends of the Bible, the modern world we face today is full of various temptations that sometimes draw us away from God. We live with the choice to prioritise Him and focus on the Lord, or to live according to the desires of our hearts and shift our focus away from God. Let us direct our gaze solely towards the Lord. Observe the signs of His restoration in the changing times and do not be swept away by our own desires.
