Every person is born with responsibilities that are inherent to them, whether as a housewife, an employee, an entrepreneur or a student. In carrying out these duties and responsibilities, we often feel incapable and overwhelmed. Yet it is at that very point that our faith in God should grow. We should strive to fulfil every responsibility grounded in His love and His help. 

Jeremiah came from the town of Anathoth, about 5 km north of Jerusalem, and was born into a family of priests. He was called to be a prophet in the 13th year of King Josiah’s reign, whilst he was still very young. Therefore, when God called him, Jeremiah felt unqualified because he was still young and not eloquent. Yet it was the Lord Himself who enabled him. He sanctified Himself by consecrating Jeremiah’s mouth, so that whatever Jeremiah would say in future would be what God said. Furthermore, God also emphasised that it was He who had formed and created Jeremiah, and so God knew Jeremiah far better than anyone else. God was confident that Jeremiah could carry out his duties and responsibilities as a prophet. Evidently, the message Jeremiah was to deliver was not an easy one to convey. He had to tell the entire population of Israel that disaster was about to befall them. This was the consequence of Judah’s actions, which were far from God’s will. Imagine that Jeremiah had to deliver this message whilst Judah was already on the brink of disaster. 

God was fully aware of the weight of Jeremiah’s responsibility. Therefore, He never once left Jeremiah alone in carrying out his duties. Provided that Jeremiah continued to walk in the path He desired and obeyed the word of the Lord at all times. So it is with us today: no matter how heavy our tasks and responsibilities may be, as long as we carry them out in accordance with His will, God will always help us. So let us carry out our responsibilities without delay. Fight against the feelings of self-doubt that often overwhelm us, for God trusts us completely.
