From God comes help

In the dynamics of our relationships with others, it is often a harsh reality that there are times when we encounter people who dislike, hate, and oppose us vehemently. Sometimes these people do not hesitate to confront us directly, while other types prefer to talk about us from behind. When that happens, the heart feels so sad, the feeling of rejection comes to greet us, confidence is destroyed instantly, and distrust of those around us becomes a necessity. So as His children, the right question is what is the best response we can give based on His wisdom and discernment?

Our psalm today describes the situation. Verse 1 gives the context or background of psalm chapter three, which is when David ran from Absalom. Absalom was David's son who coup d'état his own father. The attempt pushed David to the point that he had to flee Jerusalem to save his life. Imagine what was going through David's heart as he had to flee from his own son who wanted to overthrow him from the throne and even assassinate him.

When we understand the context, we can understand the context.

When we understand that context, the verses that follow come alive. The poem begins by portraying the distress that King David was going through. So many enemies wanted him. But they didn't deter him because God was like a shield that deflected all attacks on him. God was not silent as He answered the psalmist's cry for help. The problem did not make him unable to sleep, in fact the psalmist described himself as being able to fall asleep and wake up well. A picture of inner peace because God sustains him. A portrait of the faith that enables man to face any challenge that comes his way.

Friends of the Bible, we may be experiencing the same kind of depression and betrayal that David did. We feel so small in the face of problems that feel so big. Thanks be to God that through today's passage, God encourages us again. He will sustain us and be by our side. Therefore, stop bowing your head before such a big problem, as if there is no more hope for us. Instead, look to the future with full confidence that God will help us. From God comes help and His blessings descend upon us.
