Often when we decide to follow God in earnest, there are various temptations that come along and try to keep us away from that commitment. Therefore, it is hard to imagine the kind of rejection experienced by people who are called to come to Jesus for the first time. Following God is a long and often risky process. But the hard journey is never out of His sight. God always brings His wisdom and protection to everyone. We will reflect on this theme through Psalm 9:1-11.

Our psalm this time seems to reflect the life of King David with its own dynamics that are often not easy to live. The various situations that plagued his life revealed the deeds of God that surpassed all understanding. God thus affirms His existence as the only reason for us to rejoice and praise His name. God's omnipotence in the lives of believers is also realized through His justice. He banishes those with evil intentions. Nations that oppose God have no place because their ways are the ways of ungodliness. If the throne of nations is temporary, then God's throne or dominion is forever. He is like a just judge and will judge the world with justice.

God is reflected as a figure who sides with those who are oppressed and need protection. He provides refuge in times of distress. That refuge is available to all who place their hope in God alone.

Friends of the Bible, from this we can understand that God alone is our refuge. Following God is often not easy, but He is the only one who is the best choice to lean on in navigating the swift currents of life. If God is a God who upholds justice then it should be a necessity for us to also fight and strive for justice. So may God guide us to live in His word and stand firm in hope to face all temptations.
