Human memory is a powerful thing, far beyond our imagination. From these memories often spring reminders and the strength to carry on with life, drawing on what has happened in the past. One such instance is when we recall God’s love and kindness, which have enabled us to carry on with life.
That is the essence of the message from the Prophet Isaiah that we have just read. In verse 7, we see the prophet recalling God’s mercy towards His people throughout history. The Lord’s glorious deeds, His great kindness, and His actions carried out in accordance with His great faithfulness. That is what the Lord has done for His people. It reaffirms His commitment to always be present in the midst of His people’s afflictions. That is what has happened throughout most of history.
God’s people will always be able to see and feel His goodness when they are truly under His protection. They will worship Him all their lives and obey Him always. Unfortunately, there are times when His people turn away from God and grieve His Holy Spirit. At that very moment, they become people He does not desire, but when they return to remembering and recounting all God’s goodness, God’s heart turns towards them.
Dear Friends of the Bible, who are we that God should love us so deeply and be present throughout the history of our lives? Such is the great love of God that encompasses our entire lives. In every situation that arises in our lives, let us recall God’s great love, which stretches throughout the history of our lives. In this way, we will find the strength to know that God has never, not even once, forsaken His people. When that happens, let us express and share with those around us just how great God’s faithful love is.
