Wisdom from God is very much needed in facing the challenges and obstacles that we experience in our daily lives. This wisdom enables us to respond appropriately to situations that come and are often unexpected. One of them is to surrender to God's decree, but on the other hand not to give up and continue to struggle to walk in God's guidance and decree.
When God's promise was fulfilled to the people of Judah through their return to their ancestral land, perhaps in the minds of the people that moment was interpreted as the end of all their suffering and struggle. However, it turns out that obstacles and challenges hindered the people in rebuilding their lives, especially when they rebuilt the house of God. Even the construction of the temple of God had to stop for 15 years. Until at one point, the Prophet Haggai and Zechariah bin Iddo gave prophecies to the Jews living in Judah and in Jerusalem. The two prophets gave reinforcement to the people that God was with them. That urge was what drove them to start rebuilding.
Here we see that God's promise will surely be fulfilled because He never leaves His people. The regent of the area, Tatnai, did not abuse his authority. Instead of stopping the construction arbitrarily, he chose to clarify and even report to King Darius regarding the situation so that the situation that occurred was clear. In detail and in detail it was reported as it is. Tatnai began his report from the actual impression he got, namely the construction of the House of God which was carried out carefully and went well. Without judging, Tatnai tried to ask with whose authority the construction was restarted. This question is reasonable because the construction was stopped by King Artaxerxes' decree. He also recorded the names of the Jewish elders in detail so that the letter could be accounted for. At the same time, the Jewish elders were not afraid to carry out the construction of the house of God. Verse 5 emphasizes that the elders' belief came from their appreciation of God's favor with His people, which can be concluded from the statement "the eyes of God were upon the elders of the Jews..."
So from this story we learn that challenges and obstacles may be present in our lives. Maybe in the world of work, relationships with others, or even our ministry. One thing we can be sure of is that if we walk in His decree and will, God will always be with us even in all the obstacles and challenges that occur. On the other hand, the belief in God's presence should be greeted with work and labor that is done with full sincerity. As seen in our current passage. God through His prophet declared the promise of His presence, while the Jews restarted the construction of God's house with full sincerity. In this reciprocity, all challenges and obstacles can be overcome with full confidence. We often imagine God's help only in the final result of something we fight for according to what we want, but through this story we can see that God's help often occurs in the process and dynamics of life that we face every day.
